The Ardian Foundation is introducing Scientific Research as a new strategic pillar, marking a significant evolution in our mission. This decision responds to the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and the broader technological revolution, which are reshaping industries, societies, and the way we live and work.

We will support world class research in mathematics, physics, artificial intelligence, innovation, and economics by partnering with leading experts from top institutions. Our focus is on applied research that delivers industrial solutions, strengthens Franco‑European scientific sovereignty, and drives sustainable economic growth with a positive societal impact.

Scientific research has always been part of the Foundation’s DNA. We are now expanding this commitment to address the profound paradigm shifts driven by AI and other emerging technologies. This new focus is fully aligned with Ardian’s broader mission and is exemplified by initiatives such as the ENS research chairs on carbon capture, which tackle urgent sustainability challenges.

To drive this strategic pillar, Ardian follows a structured approach that combines active sourcing through its network, rigorous evaluation of proposals, and close collaboration with leading experts. Projects are selected based on strict criteria, including scientific excellence, originality, and potential to transform their sector. 

We prioritize initiatives that strengthen France and Europe’s leadership in key scientific and technological fields, foster industrial applications and technology transfer, and deliver meaningful societal benefits. Once approved, projects are closely monitored to ensure their long-term impact.

We support research to drive progress in:

• Promoting preventative strategies: Research can be used to argue for proactive solutions, rather than addressing problems after they have become entrenched.
• Shaping policy and systemic change: Research can influence public policy and contribute to long-term, structural improvements in society.
• Supporting national scientific sovereignty: At a time when public and private funding for research is under strain, our support helps ensure that knowledge remains accessible, relevant, and impactful.

Our future vision

From 2026 onwards, Scientific Research will absorb a growing share of the Foundation’s budget, with projections showing a significant allocation by 2028 - €2.8 million dedicated to this pillar.

This strategic shift, reflects Ardian’s belief that research is key to addressing the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. Our aim is to foster inquiry, support collaboration, and empower the next generation of changemakers—ensuring that Ardian’s values drive lasting impact and that innovation continues to serve society.
